Child Safety in Hotels
We’ve compiled safety guidelines from the Beterem Organization for families staying in hotels to help keep young children safe.
Supervising Young Children
- Always keep an eye on your children.
Children under age 6 must be actively supervised by an adult who is fully attentive and within both eye contact and arm’s reach. - Accompany your children everywhere in the hotel—not just when moving between areas—as it can be dangerous for them to walk around alone.
Safety in the Hotel Room
- Keep medications out of children’s reach. Store them in a safe place—ideally in a high cabinet.
- Place electric kettles on tables pushed against the wall. Do not plug them into extension cords.
- Lock windows and balcony doors. Only go out onto the balcony with a supervising adult who is not distracted.
- If there are children under age 4, collect toys with small parts to prevent choking hazards.
Pool Safety
- Actively supervise children near water. The adult must be free of any distractions.
- Be in the pool with your children—even if a lifeguard is present.
- Ask others around you for help so you can take a break, work, or attend to other needs.
