Safety for pregnant and breastfeeding women at shooting ranges
Pregnant and breastfeeding women applying for a private firearm license must complete shooting training at an authorized shooting range as part of the certification process. Recommendations for participation in shooting training for pregnant and breastfeeding women:
- Pregnant women from week 24 of pregnancy until birth - It is recommended that pregnant women do not participate in shooting training due to concerns about potential hearing damage to the fetus.
- Breastfeeding women and pregnant women up to week 24 of pregnancy - There are restrictions on participation in shooting ranges due to concerns about lead exposure:
- Use of an open shooting range or an enclosed range with a standard ventilation system
- Clothing that includes a hat, long-sleeved shirt, and closed shoes
- Use of a disposable mask
- Use of hearing protection earmuffs
- Use of protective eyewear
- Hand washing with soap immediately after the shooting session
- Disposing of clothing for washing and showering immediately upon returning home
- Recommended use of green ammunition (with reduced lead exposure)
